It’s Party Time…
We are currently celebrating back-to-back birthdays. 1st. my husband, February 27. Then my bestie, March 1. Then my late great Grandmother, March 4. Then ME, March 10. My eldest son, March 13. Then my mother, March 18. And finally my dad, March 28. WHEW!!!… And then comes the summer, which kicks off another round of Birthdays. FUN TIMES! This year my husband and my baby-girl celebrate milestone birthdays. My husband turned 50. We celebrated with a fun party. This summer my daughter celebrates her SWEET 16!!! I am really looking forward to getting her ready for that gathering.
I am a hostess by nature. I love a party. I am blessed with the spiritual gift of HOSPITALITY! I thoroughly enjoy putting together a party. it has been a while since I last threw a shin-dig, my husbands 50th celebration reminded me of how much I enjoy hosting. I kept things simple and easy; easy food, self serve, simple flowers, a wine section, great people and equally great conversations. The custom made Pinterest inspired birthday cake was a hit. The cake was a 5 layer banana pudding cake. Y.U.M.
Notice the tooth picks and the messages of aging as I lovely poked fun at my husbands expense…
Sliders: Pulled Pork, Chicken and Beef
Shish kebabs are an easy self serve way to feed a party. Easy clean-up, impressive on a serving platter and then later very filling for an individual party goers plate. These are: chicken , sweet potato, mushroom and red bell pepper. Be creative with your shish kebabs and have fun.
Additional food set-up stationed around the party space…
Food: Green salad. Salad dressings; Asian sesame and Balsamic vinaigrette. Garlic and herb salmon. Fresh green beans. Multigrain bean and vegetable salad. Kale and spinach deep inside of a large bread bowl of your choice.
Labeling food can help with self serve and allergies. Found at “Hobby Lobby”
I prefer serving on simple and easy glassware. No Paper or Plasticware to serve my guest.
Also notice the little bags labeled “CHEERS,” Those little bags are parting treat bags for the grown-ups to enjoy on their ride home. I filled the bags with an after dinner chocolate mint and a cookie fitting of the party’s theme.
This cake was a custom made creation inspired by a collection of past cakes that I created and the inspiration of photos seen on PINTEREST. “5 layers of banana pudding cake”. The bakery that I used for this creation was a brand new bakery for me and the bakery had recently changed owners. Because of the newness and change of business hands for the owners, custom cakes were not on their agenda but, they were willing to take on the challenge of my designs and request. While creating this cake on paper, excitement for everyone involved was high!!! The baker looked forward to adding a new design and new cake to the menu list of options.
The day of pick-up was amazing. The cake presented itself well. It was BEAUTIFUL!!! And very heavy. The cake was a huge hit. I sat the cake on a pedestal and it showed off for everyone to see. Oh, and the cake tasted DELICIOUS!!!
I finished off the decor vision that I had for this cake with “cake toppers”…
I found these options at my neighborhood “Hobby Lobby”
Others options were: Party City, Michaels, and Amazon if you order on time. Cake toppers are great to collect for parties. You can use them over and over again. My birthday was just a few days later and even though I did not celebrate with a party I did celebrate with a birthday cake and a cool cake topper elevates a simple cake to help make any celebration memorable.
Also, great for photos and social media.
My birthday cake this year at home with family.
