The One Bowl Trend

 

Fun, easy meals in a bowl.  I am a huge fan of the one bowl food craze.  Although I'm not sure if I should call the Poke bowl a trend; trend implies that this is a new idea.  Depending on where you live and where you grew up the Poke bowl is as ancient as the physical bowl itself.  "Poke" Is (Hawaiian for "to section" or to slice or cut) is a raw fish salad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine, and sometimes as a main course.  Traditional forms are aku (an oily tuna) and he'e (octopus).  He'e (octopus) poke is usually called by its Japanese name "Tako" Poke, except in places like the island of Ni'ihau. Adaptations may feature raw salmon or various shellfish as the main ingredient served raw with the common poke seasoning.

 The fresh ingredients in a poke bowl are right up my ally for eating clean healthy food. Healthy foods have always been a trend for me.  I actually "crave" healthy fresh food.  This particular bowl is made with tuna, salmon, crab salad seaweed, edamame, fresh ginger, sesame seeds, diced tomatoes, avocado, onions, greens and poke sauce. My daughter had a poke bowl too, she added brown rice for a hardier meal.
